Jack passes through one more door and finds the gang is all here waiting for him.

Sayid and Shannon share a tender embrace.

Here is John Locke greeting Kate and James, with the picture of doubting Thomas behind him. And finally all his doubts and fears are behind him.

Jin greet Hurley and Libby

And Jack looks on at this joyful gathering of his friends.

On the Island, Jack pushes on...one bloody step at a time toward his final destiny.

Jack will not give up while there is strength left in him.

While in the sideways, the gang spot the man they've all been waiting for.

Jack greets John Locke who speaks the only words of this scene...
LOCKE: We've been waiting for you.

On the Island, Jack stumbles through the bamboo forest.

Desmond and Penny greet Jack

Jack is unaware that he is passing passing the white tennis shoe that once belonged to his father's corpse, now worn and dirty after 3 years exposed to the weather.

While Shannon, Charlie and Claire gather around Aarron.

Jack embraces James.

And he sees Kate.

Jack is reunited with his lost love Kate.

While on the Island, Jack has reached the end of his endurance.

And Jack falls in the same spot where he first fell onto the Island.

While Jack and Kate sit down together in the church.

And while Jack and Kate sit and reuninite

On the Island Jack bleeds to death...

and looks to the sky.

Jack sees his friends fly to freedom.

Jack smiles on the Island. He has succeeded.

And in the church, Jack to smiles, he has remembered, and has let go.

Jack's eye closes.

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 19: Jack faces his father's death and the demons of his childhood and how they drove him down the path of his life and his choice to reach out and touch those demons and memories awaken his memories of the Island.

Flash-sideways timeline - Jack makes his way into the back door of the church. He finds himself inside a small chapel with various religious artifacts, and a stained glass window with six symbols of different faiths - Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Taoism. His father's coffin is also there. Jack approaches the coffin and circles it before putting his hand on it.

As soon as he touches it, he sees a flash of himself waking up on the Island for the first time after the crash.

He places his other hand on the coffin, this time seeing more flashes of his time on the Island, just after the crash. More flashes; Locke pulling him up the cliff, saying goodbye to Sawyer, leaving on the helicopter, with Kate in the Hydra, seeing Kate for the first time, their final kiss. As the flashes stop, he backs away from the coffin dazed and confused. Then he opens the coffin to discover it is empty.

Christian: Hey, kiddo.

Jack: Dad!

CHRISTIAN: Hello, Jack.

JACK: I don't understand...you died.
CHRISTIAN: Yeah. Yes I did...
JACK: Then how are you here right now?

CHRISTIAN: How are you here?

JACK: I died too...

CHRISTIAN: It's okay...it's okay. It's okay son.

JACK: I love you, dad.

CHRISTIAN: I love you too, son.

JACK: You...are you real?

CHRISTIAN: I should hope so.

CHRISTIAN: Yeah, I'm real. You're real, everything that's ever happened to you is real. All those people in the church...they're real too.

JACK: They're all...they're all dead?

CHRISTIAN: Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some...long after you.

JACK: But why are they all here now?

CHRISTIAN: Well there is no "now" here.

JACK: Where are we, dad?

CHRISTIAN: This is the place that you...that you all made together, so that you could find one another. The most...important part of your life, was the time that you spent with these people. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you.

JACK: For what?

CHRISTIAN: To remember...and to...let go.

JACK: Kate...she said we were leaving.

CHRISTIAN: Not leaving, no. Moving on.

JACK: Where we going?

CHRISTIAN [smiling]: Let's go find out.

I really felt a WOW! factor when I first saw this scene between Jack and his father Christian. This one final dialog between Lost' overarching hero and the father who imbued him with so many demons that drove him to be that hero who could not and would not fail. Jack performed near miracles in the operating room and on the Island, healing a woman's shattered spine and beating the life back into Charlie. But on the Island he was faced with the ultimate 'immovable object'.... destiny, which would not bend to his indomnible will. Jack faced his own failures and in accepting them he was able to transform himself even before the ceremony with Jacob and had both the faith and the courage to lay down his own life (as well as risking all of the lives of his friends and love) in order to save the Island which so confounded him before his transformation. Now he became the Island's savior but like Moses, he was not destined to enjoy the promised land. And he gave up that mystical place as well as his love, his friends and his own life in order to protect them all.

This one scene turned the entire 6th season flash sideways on it's head with the ultimate reveal that redefined the entire season. I was so happy to savor the surprise as well as the sentimentality of this final entwining of our hero's journies to the ultimate end and that mystery beyond which no one returns and for which there are no reveals.

Exactly what the flash sideways was is less important than what it meant to and for our heros. Whether the flash sideways was limbo or a prelude to the afterlife or, in my own interpretation just one in a series of karmic rebirths our heros experienced until they were ready to take to their next journey together, I don't think it really matters. It was a simple but oh so effective and dramatic surprise ending which helped redefine the entire 6th season and gave this wonderful series a finale that was indeed final and explored that ultimate finale which we all must face eventually.

Well as Jack goes through one more door, there lies another thru which lies a transformation into the unknown and undiscovered country. And for me there is one final scene to document and comment on before I let go of Lost.

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 18: Kate brings Jack right to the thresehold but leaves him to walk his final road alone, while on the Island Jack awakens and staggers forward step by step to his destiny, and back in the sideways Jack struggles toward a different goal--or is it the same, he ascends the guarded tower of the church, step by step to find his father's coffin and comes face to face not only with mortality but also with the demon that has driven him every day of his life, his father's shadow has always drapped itself around Jack's life and soul, perhaps its time for a parting and a new beginning?

While on the Island Jack is mortally wounded, yet is still driven to struggle forward step by step, not giving up even at the end when he knows he faces his own death as his life blood seeps from his side with every step. Where does Jack think he's going to? He has succeeded. He was driven to return to the Island and has found his purpose. He vanquished MiB, saved the Island (and the world?), saved his friends (including Desmond) and now is on a path that can only end one final way--with his own death. But is death the end? Where has Jack's path in life truely led him?

Meanwhile in the flash sideways Jack is driving with a beautiful, mysterious woman who promises that if he comes with her, he will find meaning and understand all the strange events that are happening to him. Sounds like a great deal, but instead of a motel, Jack is lead to a church.

Jack looks over to Kate wondering what will happen next.

Kate asks Jack if he know's where he is?
KATE: Do you know where we are?
Quite the metaphysical question but Jack's focus is still stuck right in front of his nose ignoring all the memories that have flashed before his eyes.

JACK: This is where I was gonna have my father's funeral. He died, in Australia.

KATE: I'm sorry.

JACK: Why did you bring me here?

KATE: Because this is where you're gonna have your father's funeral...

Kate: ...You can go in around back.

JACK: Wait, where you going?

KATE: Inside. I'll be waiting for you there, once you're ready.

JACK: Ready for what?

KATE: To leave.

And as in the flash sideways Jack is on the pinnacle of awareness, likewise on the Island Jack awakens from his struggle to save the island and struggles onward, not consciously knowing where he is going but struggling to get there just the same. Jack's life has alway been such a struggle. What will happen when he finally lets go of the struggle and his mortal coil?

Back in the flash sideways we see stern and forboding figure of a guardian possed in warning to go no further.

But Jack walks past the guardian and the barriers around the church.

He scales the steps in search of...Does Jack even suspect what he will find?

Perhaps his destiny, perhaps awareness of what these strange memories mean and why he has such strong emotions and connections to strangers. Perhaps Jack will find understanding. And true understanding starts with self awareness. So Jack is likely to face his own personal demons, the same challenges he has been dealing with his whole life.

He opens the door to the mystical gateway of understanding, metaphorically represented by the main religious figures.

Jack sees icons and imagery from Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Taoism.

And then he turns and sees his father's coffin.

Jack has come full circle.

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 17: Hurley makes Ben an job offer and then offers a hearty job well done!

Desmond is down and out from his trip into the cave of light.

But Jack has succeeded and the light is back on!

Hugo ponders Jack's fate and his own.

BEN: I think Desmond's gonna be okay.

HURLEY: Jack's...gone...isn't he?

[Ben just nods to confirm it and Hurley breaks down into tears.]

BEN: He did his job, Hugo.

HURLEY: It's my job now...

...What the hell am I supposed to do?

BEN: I think you do what you do best. Take care of people. You can start by helping Desmond get home.

HURLEY: But how? People can't leave the Island.

BEN: That's how Jacob ran things... Maybe there's another way. A better way.

BEN:...Maybe there's another way. A better way.

HURLEY: Will you help me?

BEN: I'm sorry?

HURLEY: I could really use someone with like, experience. For a little while. Will you help me, Ben?

Ben is stunned.

BEN: I'd be honored.

HURLEY: Cool.

Ben gets a chance for redemption from someone who has every reason to hate him, but who doesn't.

Back at the Church, Ben continues to ponder.

HURLEY: Oh, hey dude.

BEN: Hello, Hugo!

HURLEY: We're all inside.

BEN: I don't think I'm coming in.

HURLEY: You know, you were a real good number two. .

BEN: And you were a great number one, Hugo.

HURLEY: Thanks, dude. I'll see ya.

Ben is left outside again. But this time instead of contemplating his actions leading to the death of John Locke perhaps he ponders that part of his life that was worthy of the redemption that Ilana and Hurley bestowed upon him.

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 16: John arrives at the church and finds Ben cooling his heels outside; John finally frees himself from his disability, from blame, from fear, John forgives Ben who still has some issues to work on And we get one last stellar performance from Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson

John Locke is miracolously recovered from surgery and intuitively heads straight to the Church.

Still using the wheelchair though.

But he looks very happy in those wheels. John looks like he's got somewhere to go and he's so close.

But who's this cooling his heels outside the church...it's Ben Linus, John's olde nehmesis.

Ben is lost in contemplation.

But John greets him as he passes.

John expresses happiness at seeing Ben...

...and inquires if everyone is gathered yet.

Ben believes almost everyone is inside.

As John starts to leave, Ben appologiezes: I'm very sorry for what I did to you John. I was selfish, jealous. I wanted everything you had.

LOCKE: What did I have?
(What John had is mirrored in the methaphore of his face and the yin and yang symbol. Two halfs of light and darkness with a portion of light within the darkness and a portion of darkness within the light. This shot also evokes the dream scene in "Raised by Another" where John is seen to have one black eye and one white eye and is drawing tarot cards when he confronts Claire about giving up her baby. John was a hero whose life was a crucible where the archtypical conflicts and quests that each of us face were played out on the stage that was his life and death.)

BEN: You were special, John... and I wasn't.

LOCKE: Well if it helps, Ben, I forgive you.

BEN: Thank you, John...that does help. It matters more than I can say.

LOCKE: What are you gonna do now?

BEN: I have some things I still need to work out. I think I'll stay here a while.

BEN: You know, I don't think you need to be in that chair anymore.

LOCKE: Goodbye, Ben.

And Ben is left behind to ponder his crimes and fashion a path to his own reemption.

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 15: Jack decends into the Cave of Lights to rekindle the what Desmond put out; while Chesty Lapedius is working to get off this rock!

Frank 'Chesty' Lapedius cranks up the engines and enjoys the humm of their pure magic, he's ready to get outahere while the getting is good, he's not waiting til every seat is taken.

Meanwhile Hurley and Ben lower Jack into the well of lights.

Another jolt from the Island leaves Jack tumbling to the bottom.

Where he spots Desmond passed out from his efforts to uncork the Island.

Desmond fesses up to pulling the plug and turning off the lights. HIS plan didn't work, cause he's still here.

Jack drags him to the rope.

And Desmond puts up a vain effort to stop Jack, but Jack is insistent.

It's Jack's job to finish this and Desmond has done enough. It's time for him to go back to his wife and child.

And we shift to the bucolic beauty of the Island (Hawaii).

And find James and Kate washed up on Hydra Island yet again. And they spot a welcoming party but while subduded it's definitely more friendly than the last time when Widemore double crossed them and threw them in the pokey.

It's Claire and she' is adrift and rudderless, afraid to go 'home' and worried that her pain and suffering and madness will endanger her Aarron.

James reacts to the Island shaking and spots a big chunk of it going into the sea.

Suddenly there is alot less of that beautiful Island.

James is determined to get off this rock while there's time.

But Claire has no where to go and dispassionately awaits her doom.

Kate implores her to come home.

But what kind of mother would Claire be? With only squirl baby to practice with for 3 long years.

But Kate will not leave without her.

And Chesty has got the engines fired up and is backing this baby out onto the runway.

James hears the sound of the engines and knows its now or never.

But Claire is distraught.

Kate tells her that no one starts off as a mom.

You have to grow into it. And she knows, cause she was never a soccer mom or taco night kinda girl, but she became a mom for Aarron

And she promises to be there for Claire and help her get past her demons.

Will Claire go, or turn into Rousseau part deux?

The plane is ready to roll!

Frank tells the team to strap in cause he's leaving.

The engines roar!

But wait, our last Losties make it in time.

Frank tells Richard to open the hatch for some late arrivals.

And we switch back to the fire which is still burning away at the Island's heart.

Jack desperately heaves into the cork and drags it into place.

He's in agony but this is his last duty to perform and he's doing it entirely by his own choice.

It's in. (That's what she said:-)

And he collapses.

While the fire still burns.

And the Island is still shaking. That runway won't last much longer.

Kate, Claire and James race to board.

Sorry Claire but you'll have to check your squirl baby, no more overhead space.

Good to see you too Enis.

Our Losties only travel in first class. Bit of a flashback to their arrival on the Island via Ajira 316.

Frank lets the engines loose and they roar down the runway.

Frank wishes they had just a bit more runway.

Not much room left and those treess are getting pretty close.

Take Off!

They made it!!!

Kate can't believe it.

And neither can Richard, he has spent a several lifetimes on the Island and now he is leaving it (and his guilt) behind. The unknown truley lies before him.

While Miles is free and footloose with a bag full of diamonds to sneak past customs.

Claire tensely awaits the next moment.

But she won't have to go it alone, Kate is there to help.

It looks like she may just make it yet.

An act of kindness touches her heart.

And Kate succeeds in bringing Claire home.

While James is leaving the only home and love he ever really cared for behind.

Good bye Blondie.

What's this, Jack is being barbecued!

It's still burning?!? Jacobbb!!!!

But wait! The water comes at last.

And the fire dies and the light returns.

Jack's faith is redeemed!

And he's engulfed by the light of the Island.

The return of the life giving water and glow of the light spreads to the tunnel's entrance.

Where Hurley and Ben stand amazed at Jack's success.

And Hurley thinks of Jack's sacrifice.

Ben and Hurley jump to the rope. It might not be to late for Jack.

But Jack lies near death and enjoys his success, however briefly.

And it's Desmond who get's rescued.

Hurley desperately pulls up hoping to find Jack.

But it's Desmond.

And Hurley screams Jack's name.

But the echos are lost amid the roar of the light coming fully back to life.

What will become of Jack after he has bathed in the Island' pure light?

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 14: Jack finds Kate but refuses to let go of his present to embrace the past and walk into the future and on the Island Jack passes the torch to Hurley

In the Flash Sideways, Jack is a one dimensional man in search to be complete, to find his missing half. He is a determined man of science locked into his role of fixer of broken things.

The party's over but Jack is searching for his 'son' David, his biggest responsibility and outside of his broken marriage and role as healer of broken people, his main obsession to fix. This frame catches Jack half in the darkness as his past and other side of his life is still repressed.

But he finds someone unexpected who will shed light on that side of his life.

It's Kate (and she's smokin!) who is delighted to find him.

She is eager to show him the light, and she is sparkling.

But Jack is clueless! And doesn't understand why this incredebile woman is smiling at him and looks vaguely familiar?

Kate looks at Jack with such intensity and emotion.
She tells him "It's over" but her eyes say somethings just about to start.

Jack is amazed! Does this blazing beauty know me?

Kate asks if Jack is looking for someone (cause here I am!)
Kate is so open and welcoming for someone who stole his pen.

But Jack is Lost and gropes for some understanding from his (current) life to make sense of encountering this woman. Surely what he feels for this woman isn't due to her possessing his pen. She seems to possess his very soul, but that CAN"T BE!

And Kate is patient as she sees his confusion and reaches out to him to help

Concern echoes in her eyes as she tells him that her stealing his pen is "not how you know me."

And she is willing to cross any gulf to bring Jack to her and show him how he knows her.

But Jack is like a deer in headlights.

So Kate takes the lead...

Kate reaches out and touches her long Lost Love, and he again awakens to the memories of his Island life.

And the woman before him is transformed, and both of them are younger, in a time when passion floated on a tropical evening breeze and love blazed in the flickering lights of a fire among the dunes and beneath a moon that is overshadowed by the glow of desire in her eyes as they first pass looks of flirtatious longing that ebb with the tide but they find their souls clinging to each other through out the comming struggle and travail that engulfs them on the island and off.

Here is that same mysterious woman and again he sees her for the first time and that envelope of mystery enfolds him.

And he awakens to feel her warm hands embracing his face and heart.

Kate: I've missed you so much!

Kate is complete with Jack by her side.

As Jack again glimses what he is missing.

That first passionate kiss.

But Jack turns away and refuses to believe his feelings or his awakened memories.

Kate is troubled at how Jack can deny their memories and ties of friendship and love.

But then, she knows Jack better than he knows himself (at least right now).

And can't be surprised that he would react any other way.

Jack is Jack and he has had one particular demon on his back since he was born.

Jack is determined to cling to the one dimension of his life that makes complete scientific sense because he fundamentally still has a broken piece of his life that can not be fixed and that he has not acknowledged. Jack needs to face his father but his father is dead.

But he while he doesn't understand WHAT IS HAPPENING TO HIM. He continues to the truth of it.

Kate doesn't force it,

Jack: What is happening?

Kate implores Jack to trust her.

She knows he doesn't understand what is happening, but promises "If you come with me, you will."

Jack considers and his reason slips a little.

He teeters on the edge between faith and reason, between love and fear, between the unknown mystery of life and love and the solemn comfort of duty and science.

Kate burns into his soul and will not let him loose.

We flash sideways to find Jack being dragged through the bamboo forest by Hurley and followed by Ben.

Just as they approach the Cave of Light they get a reminder that Jack's wound isn't their only worry; the Island is still tearing itself apart.

Jack colapses before his final task.

Hurley wants to know how 'we' get down there.

But Jack knows 'we're not, going down there. It's a one man job and that job is Jack's. He's going it alone from here.

Hurley says that Jack can't go it alone and survive.

Concern is etched on Hurley's face.

Hurley's jaw drops when he realizes Jack's intention to die saving the Island.

Hurley won't let Jack die!

Jack (is steely and determined): It has to be this way.
But Jack knows he's already dead, F-Locke's blow was mortal and Jack's not kidding himself.

But Hurley says Jack is supposed to protect the Island.

Hurley: You can't die! The Island needs You!
You're committing suicide!!!

But Jack knows that this is how it is supposed to happen.
Jack: This is what I'm supposed to do.

Hurly demands that Jack is NOT SUPPOSED TO DIE! THE ISLAND NEEDS YOU!!

But Jack tells Hurley, "It (the Island) needs you!"

Hurley is shocked.

Jack is insistent, "It needs to be you Hugo."

The weight of this responsibility sinks in on Hurley.

Fate is reaching out to claim him.

And Ben is passed over again. His greates desire has always been to run this Island and now it seems it's to go to one who doesn't desire any bit of that power and responsibility.

Emotion flows over and through Hugo as the burden of what Jack is saying sinks in.

Hurley: I can't!

Hurley: It's supposed to be you!

Jack: It was only supposed to be me so I could do this.

Jack: But if someone has to take care of the Island, if someone has to protect it, then it should be you.

Jack: Hurley...

Jack: ...I believe in you.

Hurley digs deep and agrees to take the responsibility (but only til Jack comes back after the light gets lit, Hugo proclaims its only temporary).

Jack knows that everything is temporary, even the weight what he just placed on Hugo, but he also knows that he won't be coming back this way again.

But its a deal never the less.

And Ben see's his final chance to become the true leader of the Island slip away forever.

But when Jack says they need a cup, or something to hold water, he comes right forward to help pass the cup of leadership to Hurley.
(This is a real honest to god, Holy Grail moment. The Grail is the symbol of healing and rebirth to the Hero's path. It appears when it is needed and it's form is immaterial. It is not recognized until it is needed and used by one who does not wish to possess it.)

Ben acts as the methaphorical "Fisher King" who has possessed the grail his whole life without realizing it. He had thirsted for its power and has always been wounded. His wound representing his sacrificing of his life, and love in a vain pursuit of control and manipulation of those around him. Ben the ultimate manipulator is shown to be the weakest, and finally merely a vehicle for the passing of the grail. But at the end, Ben embraces this role. He relenquishes his ambition for control and is healed.

Jack unceremoniously fills the grail.

And Ben witnesses the inglorious mystery at the heart of the Island, the passing of the torch from one leader to another.

Jack offers the now filled 'grail cup' to Hugo.

And he accepts it from Jack's bloody hands. From death to life, the cup is passed.

And in drinking Hugo accepts the responsibility of the Island...

...and is changed...

...

...or is he, is that it?

Yes,
Jack: Now you're like me!

With mixed emotions, Hugo accepts the responsibility...

...and painfully acknowledges Jack's sacrifice and his own new burdon.

Well another post down, we'll return with the Losties desperate to get the Ajira plan off Hydra Island as my review of "The End" wines down.

THE END - A Photographic Review - Part 13: Miles swears by duct tape, Lapidus doesn't have time to talk, James and Kate take the plunge while Detective Ford meets Juliet and sees the light..even when all else is dark!

Frank 'Chesty' Lapedius is in a rush and doesn't have time to chit chat with James. It's "get your asses over here pronto or we'll see you in the funny pages!"

Close up on the chest hair

Hey, I still got a ton of unused minutes, hang on awhile.

"Son of a bitch"!

They're not gonna hang around. No time to lose...they need to get to the boat NOW!!!

I guess we're swimming for it?

That's quite a drop.

Kate doesn't hesitate: "Geronimo Jackson!"

James is not to be outdone...It's head first for him.

Does he think he's on "Heros"? Look its a Hurley bird, no it's an Ajira plane, no it super Sawyer.

Kate and James have gotten off the Island.

Detective Ford is looking for someone to protect...he's got a whole that he needs to fill.

There's a vending machine straight ahead but be warned, it's guarded by a vicious beast!

Son of a bitch!

You're mine now!

Huh!

Dr. Carlson gives James her 'servere' look. You're in trouble now Ford!

A cop, that's a likely story.

Hmm...do I see a hint of a smile.

Wait you're pulling my leg. Ha, Ha, why don't you pull the other one, no the other one.

So, your candy is stuck, eh?

I know a trick or 2.

You can unplug it and then plug it back in and the candy will drop right into your hands.

What do you think of that?

James turns on that boyish charm.

James looks like Juliet has turned him into an impish boy.

One candy bar has brought our hero to his knees

Here it is.

Oh oh!

Whoops

Juliet gets down and reaches into the belly of the beast to find that prize.

Juliet: "It worked!"

(so as she lay dying her last thoughts as read by Miles was her mind crossing over to another reality where she met James and remember their lives. So in a way "It worked" refers to James and Juliet's successful rebooting of the candy machine but really it means that all the Losties will find each other again!)

And with this inocent touch they reconnect with each other and their memories of their other lives...and remember.

Hey Blondie! (A happy moment and perhaps Juliet's best day...she saved Ethan's life and is deleriously happy in love)

Give me a week.

Juliet remembers their final moment which is everlasting.

The joy of those 3 years.

The beginning bliss of laughter and joy as they watch each other's backs.

Juliet has got James' back covered.

And is maddly in love with James.

But the dharma wheel turns and their bliss is interupted as their Lost companions return to the Island in 1977.

Juliet knows their time together is over. Not just Kate's return but fate has found them again, even in the dharmaville past and their futures are being inexhoribly drawn toward a conclusion mapped by Jacob.

James remembers the end, the anguish and sorrow.

Juliet!

James!

Juliet: Kiss me James!

James: You got it Blondie!

At Last, together again...and James isn't going to let go of Juliet ever again.

The End - a photographic review -- Part 12: Jack is wounded unto death but will not leave the Island; a final parting between Jack and Kate (tears)

We open up the scene with a picture of the Elizabeth. F-Locke's escape plan.

As Kate and Jack look down on the dead body of MiB. A 'man' who lived on the Island for over 2,000 years and who took the form of their friend John Locke as part of his scheme to be free of the Island and destroy his old prison. Now he lies dead, but finally free.

Kate helps Jack away from the precipice.

He is sorely wounded.

Locke struck a deadly blow.

It's mortal.

Jack never would stop being the hero, never. Not until his very last breath.

Jack is resigned to his fate.

Hurley, James and Ben show up, finally. The rifle lies forgotten. The way of the sword is over. No one left is interested in fighting over the Island or gaining dominance. Widemore is dead and Ben has finally turned to the light (hopefully).

James is informed that F-Locke is dead.

He is amazed.

Kate believes its over.

But does the Doc believe its over?

But while F-Locke or MiB is dead...

The Island is still sinking!

Opps, hope I'm not disturbing you all. The scene flashes sideways to find Detective James 'Sawyer' Ford making a house visit.

Nope we are finished and were just leaving. (Seriously though why is Jin putting his clothes back one?:-)

Captain Frank 'Chesty' Lapedius is busy getting the plane ready. The rain has stopped but the Island is still falling apart.

Ole Chesty blue eyes is getting off this damned dirty island...and back into Burt Reynolds movies.

Crappville! The hydralic pressure is kaput on the front brakes. (kinda funny: the HYDRAlic pressure goes bad on HYDRA Island).

Here take this and go fix it.

Huh, how am I gonna fix a jet plane?

Duct tape? Why didn't you say so...Piece of cake!

Chesty makes a call. It's now or never, get your asses over here!

Frank's in a rush and in no mood for chit chat, but this ride's not over yet.

The Island is still shaking and baking.

Son of a bitch! What's the deal? You said it was over?

Damn it! Locke is dead already!

Jack: It's Desmond's fault!

Kate: Huh?

Jack: Whatever he did needs to be undone.

James Ford looks flabergasted. It ain't over yet.

Jack is taking charge, but Kate says he doesn't have to do this, we can all leave this Island!

We can all go home!!!

Kate implores Jack that they can be together.

But Jack has already chosen and he knows his fate is sealed. He is mortally wounded and yet must save the Island before he dies.

Kate does not wish to surrender Jack to the Island.

But he will not budge.

And Kate sees the determination (and death) upon his face.

Jack calls to James and tasks him with getting the survivors to Hydra Island. "Can you get them there James?"

You got it Doc.

Jack painfully rises to the call of duty.

Hurley looks on in anguish and trepidation. Jack's devotion and leadership is moving him along his own path.

A final farewell between the two greatest heroes of Lost. Jack 'Doctor Giggles" Shephard and James 'Im a complicated guy' Ford.

Thanks for everything Doc (and James knows Jack has sacrificed everything to reach this point, perhaps he even forgives him for Juliet's death).

Jack embraces his destiny.

Ben calls out to James.

He passes him the walkie (nice catch)...no pressure with the cliff and all.

If the Island is going down, then Ben's going with it. A final act of devotion by Ben to the Island to which he has sacrificed everything, including his ambition and greed for power

The Losties look to Jack and Kate expecting a final farewell.

Jack looks to Kate with happiness, he may have regrets but he is embracing his path with joy.

She can not accept their parting.

Kate silently pleads with Jack to leave the Island with her.

Kate: Tell me I'll see you again!!!

But Jack can't lie to her, not now, not at the end of everything.

And Kate reads the end of their story on Jack's face.

She has no more tears for the anguish of their parting.

But bears one final kiss.

Kate: I love you!

Jack: I love you to

Tears, Tears and more Tears for such a parting.

Kate watches Jack leave. The story isn't over yet, but their part together is.
